The design of singly reinforced beam can be done in few seconds using this program.
program is based on limit state method of design and follows IS 456: 2000 code of practice for RCC.
| Program Description : |
| This is a Spread Sheet program written in MS Office Excel for the purpose of design of singly reinforced beam. |
| → Design is based on IS 456 : 2000 and Limit-state method is used. |
| Assumptions: |
| →Plane sections normal to the axis remain plane after bending. It means that the strain at any point in the cross-section is proportional to the distance from the neutral axis. |
| →The maximum strain in concrete at the outermost compression fibre is taken as 0.0035 in bending. |
| →The relationship between the stress-strain distribution in concrete is assumed to be parabolic |
| →The tensile strength of the concrete is ignored. |
| Formulae Used: |
| 1.Factored Bending moment = 1.5 times the actual bending moment |
| 2. Mu=(0.138*fck*d^3)/2 (simplified formula from IS 456 for Fe 415) |
| 3. Effective Depth = depth + cover + (diameter of bar)/2 |
| 4. Mu= 0.87fy*Ast*(d-0.42Xumax) |
| 5. all other things as per IS 456 2000 |
| Limitations: 1. only Fe415 gives exact results other grades may show some errors due to formula2 which is specific only to fe415. |

| User Guide: |
| 1. This parameters should be known for the design of signly reinforced beam. |
| Fy,Fck,bar diameter,stirrups diameter,clear cover, Bending moment acting. |
| 2. Enter the above parameters in the column of Beam2 in the table. |
| 3. Then just copy all other remaining values from beam1 and paste in the beam2 (which are in pink colour) |
| 4. The pasted values will change as per the given data and will not be same as beam1. |
| 5. Similarly Beam with desired bending moment and other parameters can be designed. |
